About International Baccalaureate (IB)
The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a non-profit organization founded in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland. It provides four educational programs.
- The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 to 12
- The Middle Years Programme (MYP) for children aged 11-16.
- The IB Diploma Programme for children aged 16-19
- The IB Career-related Programme for children aged 16-19.
The MYP curriculum framework consists of eight subject groups that provide early adolescents with a broad and balanced education. In each year of the MYP, at least 50 hours of teaching time are required for each subject group. In the program’s final two years, carefully defined subject group flexibility allows students to meet local requirements as well as personal learning goals.
MYP focuses on these core subjects (Language acquisition, language & literature, individuals & societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical & health education, and design).
The IB Diploma Programme
The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum consists of six subject groups as well as the DP core, which includes the theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS), and the extended essay.
Students in the Diploma Programme (DP) core reflect on the nature of knowledge, conduct independent research, and complete a project that often includes community service.
The IB Career-related Programme
CP students undertake a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a career-related study.
For CP students, DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigor of the programme; the career-related study further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning; and the CP core helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.
